Chris, a friend of mine, found this buckle and asked me if I would like it. He is still counting his fingers! When I hold it it makes me wonder what it has been through before being lost in a field in Yorkshire. Who I wonder was the owner of the buckle? Did he fight in the 14 - 18 War? Did he go over the top at the Somme? Did he come home unscathed? Or was the buckle surplus to requirements and just discarded ? I would like to think the man survived and led a normal full life. Who knows, he could have been my granddad!
