Lead Spindle Whorls (Pronounced Whirls)

Spindle Whorls are difficult to date, I have been told (and I have also read somewhere), that the decorative ones are Saxon, whether or not this is true I do not know, but they do look good. They also come in various sizes for both heavy and light use and some of them could have been used for fishing weights, or as tokens or weights for other uses.

If you know more about these items, then please let me know, I am always keen to find out more about the history behind some of the odd things I find.
